RORAIMA was specially commissioned for the Oslo World Festival in 2020 and was performed for the first time at the famous Kulturkirken Jakob church in Oslo during the festival. RORAIMA draws attention to one of the most important topics for us as humans and for the planet – namely, the importance of conserving diverse life forms, indeed, the importance of conserving Nature itself – this great entity of which we human beings are a part. The work is inspired by the sounds of the Amazonian rainforest and the Yanomami tribe´s mythology, and the music contains field recordings from the rain forest taken by the American sound recording ecologist, Bernie Krause.
RORAIMA was released on record in the winter of 2022 to a rapturous welcome both in Norway and abroad. The album was critically acclaimed by “The New York Times”, and the track “The Presentation Dance” went straight to the newspaper´s THE PLAYLIST for Week 7/22. Here on the home front, the album has received rave reviews from the media, including Aftenposten and Dag og Tid. The album was also recently awarded the prestigious “German Record Critics’ Award”.
Sigurd is accompanied by a cluster of exciting musicians who join him in playing his green tunes both on the album and in concert, and as if this wasn´t enough, the evening will be further elevated by a wonderful visual production from Jan Erik Holto.
This is soft, yet powerful music conveying an important message, enhanced by additional audio and visual production. Before the actual concert, the audience can also look forward to an artist talk onstage (see below). We can promise you a fascinating, fabulous experience!

ARTIST TALK:
The concert begins with a talk onstage by Sigurd Hole and biologist Erik Steineger, covering the rain forest and the background for this musical work. “Erik was instrumental in establishing the Rainforest Fund in 1989, and with his credentials including biologist with a passion for music, rainforest expert, environmental conservation veteran and intermediary, I couldn’t have wished for a better fellow speaker. I am delighted that he agreed to be a part of this project, and I feel certain that our talk will create a meaningful and interesting backdrop for the concert”, says Sigurd.
